By all means try to grab attention – just just ‘trick’ your readers into thinking you’ll provide them with something you can’t give them.

4. Meet a Need – An effective title draws people into reading more because they feel you’ve got something to say that they NEED to hear. Indexes like del.icio.us illustrate just how effective this is. Quite often the articles that get to the top of the list are ‘how to…’ or ‘tutorial’ type articles that show readers that they will learn how to solve a problem or need that they might have.

Describe – Some readers will be drawn into a post by a cryptic title that doesn’t tell them much about what they’ll be reading – but the majority of readers need to know something about what they’ll find if they read further. Titles should describe (in a word or few) what readers will get in the main post.

2. Use Key Words – As I mentioned above – titles are a powerful part of SEO. If you want to maximize their power you need to consider using the keywords that you want your post to be found with in your title in some way. This of course is challenging when you are attempting to ‘keep it simple’ and to also ‘grab attention and intrigue’ – but it can be done. Words at the start of titles are thought to be more powerful than words at the end when it comes to SEO.

1. One last tip on titles – Take your time with your titles. Many bloggers pour a lot of effort into writing engaging and interesting posts – but then just slap any old title onto it without realizing that in doing so they might be ensuring that their post is never read.

Treat your title as an mini advertisement for your work. Take at least a few minutes before hitting publish to not only make sure your post is in order – but that your title is going to do everything it can to maximize the chances that people will engage with what you have to say.

What is RSS?

RSS is a technology that is being used by millions of web users around the world to keep track of their favorite websites and blogs.In the ‘old days’ of the web to keep track of updates on a website you had to ‘bookmark’ websites in your browser and manually return to them on a regular basis to see what had been added and check them all manually and The problems with bookmarking

1. You as the web surfer had to do all the work .

2. It can get complicated when you are trying to track many websites at once .

3. You miss information when you forget to check your bookmarks .

4. You end up seeing the same information over and over again on sites that don’t update very often .

RSS Changes Everything

What if you could tell a website to let you know every time that they update? In a sense, this is what RSS does for you.

RSS flips things around a little and is a technology that provides you with a method of getting relevant and up to date information sent to you for you to read in your own time. It saves you time and helps you to get the information you want quickly after it was published.

RSS stands for ‘Really Simple Syndication’. Many people describe it as a ‘news feed’ that you subscribe to.

I find the ’subscription’ description helpful. It’s like subscribing to a magazine that is delivered to you periodically but instead of it coming in your physical mail box each month when the magazine is published it is delivered to your ‘RSS Reader’ every time your favorite website updates.

How RSS actually technically works is probably a lesson for another day but the key today is for you to understand why it’s good and how to use it.

Let me say right up front that I’m not the most technically savvy guy going around – but even I can use RSS. At first I found it a little strange to make the change from bookmarking to RSS but I found that when I started that I just couldn’t stop.

How to Use RSS

Get an RSS Reader – The first thing you’ll want to do if you’re getting into reading sites via RSS is to hook yourself up with an RSS Feed Reader.

There are many feed readers going around with a variety of approaches and features – however a good place to start is with a couple of free and easy to use web based ones like Google Reader and Bloglines. Either one will do if you’re starting out (I use Google’s Reader) – as I say there are many others to choose from but to get started either of these are fairly easy to use and will help you work out the basics of RSS.

Both of these feed readers work a little like email. As you subscribe to feeds you’ll see that unread entries from the sites you’re tracking will be marked as bold. As you click on them you’ll see the latest update and can read it right there in the feed reader. You are given the option to click through to the actual site or move onto the next unread item – marking the last one as ‘read’.

The best way to learn how to use either Google Reader or Bloglines is to simply subscribe to some feeds and give it a go. Both have helpful help sections to get you up and running.

Find Some Feeds to Subscribe to – there are two places to look for a site’s feed:

   Over the last few years you may have noticed a lot of little buttons and widgets appearing on your favorite sites and blogs. Little orange buttons, ‘counters’ with how many ‘readers a blog has, links called RSS, XML, ATOM and many more.

   They come in all shapes and sizes. Here are a few you might have seen:

   

   There are plenty more – but any time you see any of these buttons or anything like them it means that the site you are viewing almost certainly has a feed that you can subscribe to. In most cases it’s as simple as either copying and pasting the link associated with the button into your RSS Reader or clicking the button and following the instructions to subscribe using the feed reader of your choice.

   Browser Subscription

   Many internet browsers now have the ability to find and subscribe to RSS feeds built right into them.

   When you surf to a site you can usually tell if it has an RSS feed by looking in the right hand side of address bar where you type in the site’s URL.

   See the little orange icon on the right hand side? Click that and you’ll be locating ProcopyBlogger’s RSS feed.

   Other modern browsers will have similar icons.

   To quickly and easily subscribe by clicking these icons you’ll want to set up your browser to do it with your feed reader of choice as by default they will probably subscribe you using the in-browser reader. You can do this by going to the ‘preferences’ to your browser and choosing ‘Google Reader’ or ‘Bloglines’ etc as your feed reader.

   Once you’ve done this and have subscribed to a few feeds you’ll begin to see unread items in your Feed Reader and you can start reading.

   Don’t want to Use an RSS Reader? Email is an Option

   If the above explanation all just seems a little too complicated for you then please don’t worry. Many sites also enable you to subscribe to RSS feeds via a more familiar medium – Email.

You can unsubscribe at any time and your email will be kept private and not used for any other purposes than to send these daily updates.

And yet, even though I hear bloggers seemingly shouting out from the housetops that content is king, I still find very few articles about content.  If content is king then why do bloggers focus on everything except content?  If you ask me, it seems kind of backwards.

Generally speaking, people visit your site for one of two reasons.  First, they come because you engage with them personally.  They are your friends and they visit to connect with you.  Second, they come for your articles.  They come because they view you as an authority in your field and they want to learn from you.  Or maybe they come because your writing entertains them. 

You can certainly get a long ways by engaging with your readers personally.  Answering comments and reaching out to them will fuel your drive to success.

But it won’t get you very far in grabbing the attention of the Google crowd.  If someone finds your site in a search engine like Google or Yahoo, they want information.  They want to find an article that is well-written, that entertains them, that engages with them, and that provides them a reason to dig through your site for more articles.

Here’s the bottom line: If you want to keep a majority of your visitors then you have to be able to produce amazing articles.  Period.

1. They Use Proper Grammar - When you fail to use proper grammar you make yourself appear less intelligent than you really are which takes away from your credibility and authority.

2. They Don’t Contain Jargon - I know that you want to impress your readers but using big words is the wrong way to do it.  Use simple words and sentences to make reading easy and fun.

3. They Relate Personal Experiences - One of the most effective ways to connect with your readers is to share yourself with them.  Don’t be afraid to put your successes and your failures out for everyone to see.

4. They Demonstrate Humor - A great way to captivate your readers’ attention is to make them smile.  If you can intermingle jokes, irony or satire into a post people will stick with you much longer.

6. They Can Be Read in One Sitting – Long posts can be useful, but I’ve found that more often they scare away readers.  Readers either leave the article or they only skim the highlights. The solution: Keep ‘em short.

7. They Call Readers to Act – When’s the last time you asked your readers to get out and do something after reading your article? There’s never a better time to do it.  Get out and call someone to action in your next article.

8. They Call Readers to Interact – Most bloggers wonder why they don’t get a lot of comments.  Here’s a quick tip: ask your readers questions and ask for their feedback.

9. They Provide Vital Information – Explain how something works.  Provide a how-to.    Build a step-by-step tutorial.  Provide real valuable information and people will read it.

10. They Are Organized – People are skimmers…so you might as well make it easy for them.  Provide your readers with lists and large headlines throughout the article.

People always like to know who is blogging what they read and it is the most basic rule.and adding a personal info as a short bio and a photo will be much appreciated and will give a personal touch to your blog .Adding short description will let them know who you are and also what you do ,and what you can do for them.

2. Make it attractive and easy to read.

Give people short pieces to read. If it’s a very long article you can link to the main text from your blog and just give a snippet. When you read a newspaper we all read headings and opening paragraph but how often do you read everything?unless it is very very interesting article. so try to make every article short and sweet.

3. Try to post on a  regular publishing schedule

People when create a new blog they will be much enthusiastic and post very often like some times even ten posts a day after few days or weeks the enthusiasm and interest slowly cool down and they may not post for few months and that is a very very bad schedule to follow .

Posting regularly is best , if you have time posting at least one post a day is suggested but if you are working or engaged in other activity weekly two good posts will do and finally the whole gist is post as frequently as you can and being lazy wont bring visitors.

4. Have some Focus to Your Blog

Make your blog a specialized one having too many blogs is good but instead of maintaining so many blogs badly maintain a single blog World classily, but having 2 to 3 will do no harm but make sure its a specialized blog focusing only on one topic and not any thing and every thing under sun.

I have a technology blog which only focuses on tech related topics and i also have a personal blog which i blog about personal thing maintaining them in a healthy ratio is easy ,but if i have so many blogs it will be hard to maintain them all.

5. Networking is the new SEO

Linking is an art which every blogger should master it and use it to the full potential, and interlinking and outbound linking is such a nice way to expand your network and when you link to others and also comment on their posts they will probably notice and Developing a network of like minded bloggers is a great way for your blog to grow.You can also use Twitter and other social networks to connect with other bloggers and also with your visitors.

And make those links Descriptive and let your readers know where this link will go don’t use click here instead of this you can use The title of the link .

6. Make your best postings easily accessible.

Every blog will have some pillar posts and popular posts ,don’t let posts like these get buried under Archives ,make a special section in your blog for the most popular posts and make them very easily available for your readers,avoid cluttering up the navigation bar. Too many choices confuse readers.

After publishing a new post use services like Ping-o-matic and Blog directories can be useful in the beginning.and also offer your readers a very easy ways to share the posts and also add retweet and f-share buttons will will surely help in  promoting your blog .
